Renders for the Final Exam

These are renders of a Red Dead Redemption inspired Western Saloon. Overall I am pleased with the way it came out other than the lighting is a little dark, but I made this scene before I had taken my Lighting and Surfacing class. The whole scene took me roughly 2 weeks to make because I had school projects to work on as well. However, this was my first scene that I made on my own accord.

Slum Final Render

Here is the final render of my slum feature for our class project. The two buildings can be arranged and lined up differently to create some variation. Also, we can switch out the signs and other small details to help reduce the amount of repetitiveness in the buildings. I still might make one more variation of the slum buildings to really help get some diversity in the slum area of the island.

Slightly Modified Slum

Here is a slightly modified version of the slum I previously posted. I am going to make about 3 different variations so they can be tiled to give them some variation. I am planning on putting some signage and other posters on the walls of the bulidings so they won't all look so generic as soon as they get completed.

Slum Feature

Here is one of the Slums that I made for my assigned feature. I tired to leave it as generic as possible so it can potentially be sort of tiled along where we want them to go. Because that is how they are in almost all of the reference images I looked at. I also didn't add too many high-tech things into it because antennaes and other things can be just added on later. I uploaded a few of the textures that I used since none of the ones on GoogleDocs were worn down enough. Let me know if I need to modify the style or textures to match other people's work.

Solar Panel (group)

So my actually object assignment for this week was to do a pile of clothes/laundry. But after attempting to create a legitimate looking one for a few hours I decided to accept defeat. I couldn't get the clothes to look real and it always came out block and ugly. Not wanting to go to class empty handed I decided to make solar panels since my texture was the blue paneling.

Saloon Class Update

Here is my progression on my little side project/homework for my class. I ran into a little trouble with the walls because making it a 2 story building came after I had already made the downstairs wall so the outside walls were 2 shapes and it caused some problems. After that was sorted out I had to recut the windows and doors but I think it looks a lot better now.

Saloon Beginning

This is just a random Red Dead style Saloon that I am working just for the fun of it and for the assignment this week.I have used ProCutter and Boolean so far and plan on doing a lot more with it including fully furnished and whatever else I decide to put in there. Feedback is great considering this is my first "building" that I am making from scratch.

Lofting (Sweeping) Objects

I had problems with deciding which objects to make with the Loft tool. On the metal table, the legs and the rusty ring are both Lofted. And on the present I used Loft to make the bow on top. I was only able to come up with 2 full objects to use Loft on because I understand how and when to use it, I just couldn't come up with anything cool to make out of it; even though the legs and the brace technically count as two :P

Lathe Objects

Here are the objects that I chose to Lathe for this assignment. I kept it pretty simple in the objects that I chose but I attempted to apply the 3-point lighting on all the objects. I gave the thumbtack something to be on because it helps gain a little perspective on its size.

Ammo Room (Lighting)

I found this to be probably one of my favorite assignments because there are so many different things you can do with a single light. The entire mood and feel of the room can be changed by adding one light to the scene which I find realy interesting. I think it came out pretty good except I am not sure that I did the 3-point lighting right on the grenade but I gave it my best shot

Ammo Room Texturing

This was a pretty fun assignment and I really enjoyed doing it. The things that I had trouble with were getting the raised texture of the grenade and doing the multi-sub matchbox. But once I figured out what I was doing wrong they were no trouble at all. I found that the walls were the hardest thing to make look natural, I probably cycled through 8 or 9 different wall textures before finally landing on the brick wall.

3D Logo

When we were given the assignment to create a logo the first thing that came to my mind is a little running joke that me and my brother and a few other of my online friends have. We call everyone we meet on Xbox LIVE and call them "fatboys" which sometimes gets a little rise out of them. We made up a studio called "Fatboy Studios" as part of the little joke. So I just messed arouns with the Extrude and Bevel tools using almost entirely spines and text to do this. I really like how the word Studios came out with the indented letters.

Robot Renders

Here are a few renders of the robot that I created for our first 3DS Max Assignment. I didn't really have a solid concept of what I wanted the end product to look like when I started. I just started messing around with different boxes and such. Eventually I started to get a good idea of what I wanted to make about half way through. It is just a general service robot that could be modified and adapted to serve a wide range of functions. I am really pleased with how it came out, I tried to use good variety of objects and played around with a few of the Modifyers to get some really cool things almost by accident.

Assignment 1 - Orientation to 3D

Here is my first attempt to draw a 3D perspective view of an effect pedal for an electric guitar. It is not exactly to scale but I did my best to make it at least somewhat consistent in terms of dimensions. It actually came out a lot better than I was anticipating by not being a complete disaster.

First Post

This Blog was created for my Modeling and Rendering class at ACC, I am going to be posting things that I have created while in the class to this blog. I would post pictures of my favorite artists, drawings, etc but to be honest I do not have much experience in the art world. My drawing skills are something that I have never worked on through out my education career even though I do have a small interest in it, I have just never considered myself the type to just sit down and drawing something by hand. Hopefully a majority of this class will be creating things on the computer as opposed to drawing things by hand. More to come in the following weeks
